Room Studies are an ongoing video project, originally created during a research trip to Lisbon where I found myself in so much pain that I could not leave the flat for several days. As I lay in bed listening to the city outside, I wondered how to be in the world while seemingly existing of but not a part of it.
The studies follow in the legacy of other feminist filmmakers and writers who centered the personal and a diaristic approach in their work. The films also assert that pain is inevitable and even transmutable.
The videos are sketches - created to be played modularly or together as a set. They function as chapters in a book.
